GIS Technician (remote work) — InVision GIS, Northern Colorado

About Us:
InVision GIS is a small consulting firm in Northern Colorado that delivers personal and efficient service to small utility districts, towns and cities. Our areas of expertise include water, wastewater, stormwater, fiber and electric utilities. We also install and implement ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcGIS Online Systems and GIS mobile applications. We specialize in implementing asset management and work order systems with GIS integration. Our custom training provides service support for any level of GIS and implementation. Most of our clients are long-term, spanning multiple years, including our first client from 12 years ago.

Job Summary:
InVision GIS is seeking a GIS Technician to add to our small, personal and responsive team. The GIS Technician is responsible for aiding in the creation and maintenance of geographic geometry and databases; digitizing maps; spreadsheet data entry; preparing digital data and map products; and understanding and editing utility datasets. The incumbent will support small utilities and Towns in Colorado, particularly in the public works and utilities realm. The position maintains, updates, and supports database and inventory records for City departments and local Utility districts. Our core services are typically related to utilities, public works, parks and planning (e.g., water, sewer, storm, fiber, electric, signs, addressing, easements, subdivision plats, streets and parks).

Experience, Knowledge, and Skills (Minimum Requirements):
• Associate’s degree in GIS or related field, or completion of a certification program of comparable length
• Esri experience with ArcGIS Pro
• Candidate must be detail-oriented. Detailed and accurate work is critical to this position.
• Windows computer skills, including the ability to utilize Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, Outlook)
• Self-motivated and ability to work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining multiple projects remotely
• Responsive and ability to communicate through email and verbally

Preferred Knowledge and Skills:
• Knowledge of utilities or public works assets
• Esri experience with ArcMap, ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Enterprise, Field Maps, Survey123 and Arcade.
• Cartographic skills and experience creating maps and map products with ArcGIS Pro
• Experience reading and interpreting construction drawings and as-builts
• Using coordinate geometry (COGO) to input data
• Knowledge of GIS/CAD interoperability
• Knowledge of GIS-based asset management work order systems

Key Responsibilities:
• Accurately and completely create, maintain and validate GIS data based on GPS data, engineering drawings and field drawings
• Georeference or scale engineering drawings to desired coordinate systems
• Read, interpret and COGO land surveys and legal land descriptions
• Develop a basic understanding of how utilities being edited are installed and how different features function
• Generate custom maps with attention to cartographic details
• Publish and maintain ArcGIS web-based map services and applications in ArcGIS Online
• Expand GIS capabilities by exploring new technologies and software, plus ways to improve existing methods, tools, and workflows
• Write procedures, document business processes, and prepare application documentation

Schedule and Compensation:
• This position will be 40 hour per week and will be worked remotely and virtually.
• Most hours will need to be worked during typical business hours, but there is some flexibility in scheduling based on individual preferences and coordination of schedule.
• Beginning compensation will be $22-$26 an hour depending on previous experience and education.
• Benefits include paid vacation, paid holiday, sick leave, 401k retirement and health insurance.
