UNC will be offering introductory, 1-credit courses online and asynchronously in the Fall. For each class you can anticipate around 10 hours per week of work during the course.
- Structured Query Language (SQL) (SRM 523)
- August 21 – Sept 24
- R (SRM 641)
- Sept 24 – Oct 29
- Python (SRM 644)
- Oct 30 – Dec 3
A bit more information from the instructors:
The Departments of Applied Statistics and Research Methods and Criminology and Criminal Justice are offering in the Fall of 2023 a series of the most popular software skills required by many jobs in research today – Structured Query Language (SQL), R, and Python. Students can take one or two of these courses for 1 credit each or all 3 and earn 3 credits.
Although these are all introductory courses, they will give the student enough information to either know what the data analysis/programming software can do for them or allow them to progress to higher levels. Even if students do not plan on accepting a position that requires them to know a programming language, it is still a skill that can enhance anyone’s resume and might prove to be useful in their careers.
If you are interested in the courses, you’ll need to register as a non-degree seeking student at the University of Northern Colorado. I believe the cost for 1 graduate credit, including fees, is around $700 but you’ll need to confirm that with the university.
I’m happy to answer any general questions, but please contact Vivian Guetler at vivian.guetler@unco.edu or Randy Larkins at randy.larkins@unco.edu if you have any questions about the courses.
