We are actively seeking a Geographic Information Systems Specialist for our Broomfield, Colorado office. This position will provide technical support in GIS technologies to staff and clients. The ideal candidate will have a background in natural resources management, biological or environmental sciences. Responsibilities may include GIS support for Cultural resources and other multidisciplinary projects. This position will report to the GIS Coordinator and is a regular hourly position. Pay rate is based on individual qualifications and experience.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:
" Perform GIS support for natural resource projects that may include fieldwork under the direction of natural resources staff;
" Design and maintain a variety of spatial data layers and associated attributes;
" Manipulate, analyze and interpret data from many sources and in many formats;
" Find project area aerial photography and, if needed, geo-reference the files;
" Digitize map features and san hardcopy maps and drawings;
" Create report quality map products using ArcGIS and Corel Draw;
" Collect, verify and post-process GPS data;
" Complete projects on time, on budget and at or beyond client expectations;
" Contribute to expanding SWCA's professional reputation in natural resource consulting and research;
" Work closely with SWCA's other managers and directors in both natural and cultural resources throughout the company to promote SWCA's business interests in adherence to its mission, vision, and values.

Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree or higher in geography, cartography, biology, environmental science or related field.
Two (2) or more years of hands-on GIS experience with ESRI's ArcGIS 8.x or 9.x and three (3) months or more of full-time experience collecting field data with a GPS is required. Working knowledge of Trimble's Pathfinder Office, Corel Draw or similar and Microsoft Word, Excel and Access. Hands-on experience working with AutoCAD and manipulating AutoCAD files in ArcGIS is highly desirable. Knowledge of current trends in GIS and how the technology can be applied towards natural resource assessments. Proven organizational and problem solving skills as well as attention to detail required. Must be able to formulate and clearly communicate ideas to others and communicate effectively with staff and clients through personal contact, emails and written letters/memos.

Position Description:
The Wyoming Geographic Information Science Center (WyGISC) at the University of Wyoming (UW) is seeking a Master's level remote sensing specialist to conduct and coordinate a land cover mapping and change detection project for a portion of SW Wyoming. The successful candidate will have proven experience using remote sensing methods to classify land cover and land cover change. Additionally, the candidate should be knowledgeable about shrub steppe vegetation, ideally in Wyoming, but at a minimum in the Intermountain West. The successful candidate will be asked to 1) use Landsat ETM+, TM and/or ASTER data to map SW Wyoming land cover, 2) use Landsat data to map the extent of snow cover in this area for two snow scenarios (high and low snow years), 3) do change detection for this area at 5 year intervals back to the 1980s, 4) conduct preliminary accuracy assessment of the remotely sensed land cover products, 5) conduct field work and/or manage student field workers in support of this effort, 6) present findings at progress meetings and 7) write progress reports and a final report for the project.

We currently have funding to support the successful candidate for 1.5 years, although extended funding is possible through other grant supported projects. Salary is commensurate with experience.
