NATURAL RESOURCE SPECIALIST

The job announcement for our Natural Resource Specialist (Inventory Program) position has just opened.
This position is responsible for overseeing the land cover, soils, and digital orthophotography programs
for the National Park Service Alaska Region's Inventory and Monitoring Program.
The position is located in Anchorage, and will be supervised by the Regional Inventory and Monitoring Coordinator. This position will collaborate within NPS and with other agencies and vendors to develop and distribute products from these programs to Alaskan park units. These programs include oversight of field data acquisition and analysis; evaluation of remotely sensed imagery options, tasking, and analysis of imagery; and development of final maps, databases, documentation, and other products useful to park managers. This includes developing user needs, providing technology transfer to users, and consultation to NPS staff in developing inventory and monitoring projects involving remote sensing and mapping methods. This position is responsible for the administrative management of the inventory program budget, contract management, work plan formulation, and accountability reporting.

This is a permanent position, GS-401-11/12, based in Anchorage.

MOSQUITO RANGE HERITAGE INITIATIVE

The Mosquito Range Heritage Initiative (locally known as MR. HI) is once again offering a temporary position to do some one-of-a-kind field mapping. The job involves hiking, biking, or riding the trails in the Mosquito Range, outside of Alma and Fairplay. Requirements include experience with Trimble equipment, ArcPad, and ArcMap. Ability to work independently in a harsh, natural environment is critical, as mapping will take place between 9,500’ and 14,000’. Most time will be spent in the field, but candidate will also be responsible for downloading, correcting, and building a clean geodatabase. Free boarding is available at the USFS bunkhouse in Fairplay, and a stipend is available. Great opportunity for the right person!

The incumbent’s positions will focus on GIS inputs for modeling sagebrush habitats, energy/wildlife development interactions, and wildlife species occurrences and abundance models. Qualifications include a minimum of four years experience in test development. Two years as a test lead in a related field is also required.
