SENIOR GIS SPECIALIST
UNIVERSITY OF NEBRASKA - LINCOLN

The Senior GIS Specialist will provide technical leadership for building the Nebraska Geospatial Data Sharing and Web Services Network; develop and implement web applications based on ArcGIS Server; identify and establish standards and protocols; assist Nebraska agencies in developing and maintaining statewide geospatial databases, and provide outreach, training and technical support.

Required:
Applicants must have a Masters or PhD degree in a field providing formal technical training in GIS, including experience working with the ArcGIS family of software and must have expertise with FGDC and ISO metadata standards, web portal technology and web services development as relevant to GIS. Current legal ability to work in the United States and current residency in the United States is required. Preferred: PhD degree and one or more years of experience working in a position directly related to the expertise and duties outlined above; expertise with software such as Apache Web Server, Tomcat, Red Hat Linux, ArcXML, ArcSDE. GIS DATA COLLECTION TECHNICIAN
PACIFIC WESTERN TECHNOLOGIES, LTD.

Pacific Western Technologies, Ltd in Lakewood, CO is looking for two highly motivated individuals to join the GIS data collection team. The GIS Data Collection Technician is a member of the Federal Highway Administration Road Inventory Program (RIP) crew, based in Lakewood, Colorado. The RIP’s primary client is the Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS). The Road Inventory Program is engaged in an ongoing, multi-year effort to inventory and collect road assessment data on the nationwide FWS road network, and to deliver quality data within schedule to its end users.

This position involves extensive nationwide travel, teamwork, data collection and quality checks of roadway data. To maintain the RIP program schedule, long work hours are typically required while in the field. This job requires approximately 75% travel and includes weekends.

Essential Functions:
Travel nationwide to field locations and collect roadway assessment data using a hand held Tremble Geo-XH GPS unit.
Post-process and quality check vehicle-collected data.
Conduct routine data collection duties with a spirit of teamwork, respect, and cooperation.
Communicate with team on a daily basis.
Organize and post-process collected data while at the FHWA office.

Required Skills and Abilities:
Ability to work long hours on extended road trips of typical 1-3 week duration. This position requires 75% travel.
Proficient computer user.
Ability to work well in a small team in remote environments.
Flexible mind-set when confronted with equipment problems or schedule changes. Ability to problem solve.
Ability to learn new software, hardware, or other skills.
Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision.
Quality oriented.
Clean driving record.

Desirable Specialized Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of GPS, including Trimble collection equipment.
Knowledge of GIS, including ArcView and ArcPad.
Highly technical and detail orientation. Good organizational skills.

Salary range $26,000 to $32,000 in addition to salary, this position offers; per diem, over time pay and benefits.

· Maintain and update existing GIS databases with Proposed and As-Built surveys from the Facilities Engineers and their survey contractors.
· Expand database capabilities for system records and analysis.
· Coordinate with the field offices in East Texas (Fairfield) and North Texas (Bridgeport) and keep personnel up-to-date with maps and data.
· Ensure pipeline system maps are complete and updated through GPS surveying and importing 3rd party surveys.
· Provide GPS support and training to field offices throughout the MCBU.
· Keep up-to-date with industry trends and coordinate with Denver on how to apply new technologies.
· Work with Facilities to make certain proper pipeline integrity aspects are incorporated into the pipeline database attributes for risk assessment.
· Submit data to the Texas Railroad Commission to help maintain Pipeline Compliance Standards.
· Perform queries, analysis and map-production to support the Midstream team in their daily operations.

Qualifications:
· Currently eligible or able to obtain clearance to work in the United States
· GIS Degree, GIS Certification or CAD Technical School Degree + 3 years experience
Experience with various mapping software, including ArcGIS, AutoCAD, GlobalMapper
Proficiency with Microsoft products, including Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint and Visio
Experience within the Oil & Gas Industry particularly in regards to pipelines
Understanding of the Texas Railroad Commission and the Texas Land system a plus
Familiarization with D.O.T. Standards a plus
Ability to work and communicate with Production Operations, Land Management, Facilities Engineering, Construction and other departments, including third party contractors
Ability to work in a team environment as well as independently

REMOTE SENSING/GIS SPECIALIST
USDA-ARS JORNADA EXPERIMENTAL RANGE
NEW MEXICO STATE UNIVERSITY
LAS CRUCES, NEW MEXICO

The New Mexico State University, USDA-ARS Jornada Experimental Range (JER) in Las Cruces, NM, USA is seeking a temporary, full-time technical specialist, not to exceed two years (the position may be extended at the end of the period). The Long-Term Ecological Research site at the JER has one of the longest continuous periods of records in arid regions, extending back to 1912 while the site also has a rich remote sensing database, including aerial photography (which starts in 1936). In addition to numerous satellite datasets from various sensors, high resolution digital photography from Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) has recently been obtained. The position requires a Bachelor's or Master's of Science in fields such as remote sensing, GIS, geography, natural resources, environmental sciences, or engineering; 3 years job related experience with 2 years in remote sensing data processing; and experience with soils, vegetation, or geomorphology field classification.

Responsibilities of the position include: processing and analyzing satellite imagery, aerial photography, ground-based plot photography, and Lidar data; orthorectifying and mosaicking aerial photography and hyperspatial UAV imagery; analyzing and integrating remotely sensed, GIS, and GPS data, and assisting researchers with image processing tasks; assisting with field data collection. Two to three years of experience with remote sensing/GIS software is required (Erdas Imagine, Leica Photogrammetric Suite, ESRI suite, ENVI, eCognition, Feature Analyst, etc.). Experience with digital photogrammetry and programming experience in the remote sensing/GIS environment are preferred.

The position will be based on the campus of New Mexico State University and the salary will be dependent on the applicant's level of education and experience and will range between $27,497-$41,246.
