Commerce City is seeking a GIS Technician or Specialist who is proficient in creating, editing, and maintaining geospatial databases and related tabular data. The incumbent will provide data analysis, modeling, programming, and technical support for City customers and will produce accurate, customized, visually attractive maps and reports.
Qualifications for GIS Technician include an Associates degree in Cartography, Geography, Computer Science, Planning, Engineering or related field emphasizing Geographic Information Systems plus at least two years experience with ESRI ArcGIS software (ArcInfo, ArcEdit, ArcMap, ArcSDE) in a Windows environment. Experience with ArcGIS 9x, ArcSDE/ArcServer, ArcView 3x is required. Working knowledge of CAD, GPS, COGO, and municipal data is strongly preferred.
Qualifications for GIS Specialist include all of the above plus a Bachelors degree and at least three years experience. At least one year of experience in GIS programming is strongly preferred. In addition, qualified applicants for GIS Specialist will have a basic understanding of SQL, Visual Basic Applications, ArcObjects and ArcScripts.
An equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered. Incumbents must be able to work successfully in a team environment and posses a valid drivers license.

This position is a new hire for an experienced, mid-level scientific Web programmer to join the Topographic Sciences team in the Science Directorate at the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Earth Resources Observation and Science EROS Center. The Topographic Sciences project is responsible for the creation and update of the National Elevation Dataset (NED) and other global and national datasets, and the dissemination of many of them on the Web using ESRI Internet server and Web mapping tools. The successful candidate will work with other project staff to implement Web-based science applications that utilize the project's databases. The successful candidate will also maintain the Web servers and applications operated by the project. A secondary part of this position's duties will involve technical and analytical support for Topographic Sciences projects. The successful applicant will participate as a team member of the Topographic Sciences project. S/he will be expected take a prominent role in maintaining and updating the project's ESRI-based Web server and Web mapping capabilities, and recommend updates to hardware and software. The successful applicant will be the central coordinator and expert for the many Web-based Topographic Sciences capabilities that have been and will be published by the project, including Web tools, Web mapping interfaces, and real-time calculations.
