GIS APPLICATION SOFTWARE SPECIALIST I

ASRC Management Services - an on-site government contractor, at the U.S. Geological Survey, Fort Collins Science Center, is seeking a full-time employee with extensive experience in ArcGIS, programming with Visual Basic.NET, and Microsoft Access for a position as an Application Software Specialist I ($47K/Yr.), plus full benefits.

The incumbent’s positions will focus on GIS inputs for modeling sagebrush habitats, energy/wildlife development interactions, and wildlife species occurrences and abundance models. Individuals with at least two (2) years of specialized application experience are encouraged to apply. Experience must include: analysis and modeling (vector and raster) using ArcGIS and extensions for natural resource applications; applications using spatial statistics; ability to process large quantities of GIS files to produce tabular data and map graphics; application development using Visual Basic, VBA, and .NET; and use of .NET and Access for programming, interface development, and data management of large and complex databases. Responsibilities:
The GIS Technician’s responsibilities will include:
· Perform GIS support for natural resources, cultural resources, and planning projects under the direction of the GIS Coordinator;
· Develop GIS work products and maps including cartographic products, geodatabases, and metadata;
· Assist the GIS Coordinator in data organization and management;
· Manipulate, analyze and interpret data from many sources and in many formats;
· Assist field crews with total station and/or GPS-grade surveying;
· Maintain GIS hardware and software as directed by the GIS Coordinator;

· Work closely with all GIS staff in Albuquerque and across the company to develop quality GIS products;

Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in environmental studies, geography, environmental planning or related field required.

GIS applications: At least two years experience using ArcGIS Desktop 8.x or 9.x required with 9.x being preferred. Familiarity with ESRI Spatial Analyst and/or 3D Analyst extensions necessary. GPS or survey experience including any of the following: ArcPad 6.x or 7.x, Trimble TerraSync, Total Station, and/or survey grade GPS will be considered. * Confers with project staff/subcontractors to outline work-plan and to assign duties, responsibilities, and scope of authority during project execution.
* Coordinates with operations and subcontractors to ensure project progresses on schedule and within prescribed budget.
* Reviews status reports prepared by project personnel and modifies schedules or plans as required.
* Prepares project reportsfor management, client, or others.
* Responsible for insuring the correct technical solutions are implemented to satisfy the client. This may require conferring with technical personnel across the company or subcontractors to provide technical advice and to resolve problems.
* Coordinates project activities with any outside entity required such as government regulatory agencies, airports, etc.
* Other duties as assigned.

Education:
Bachelors degree in a business related field, Master's degree preferred.

Skills/Qualifications:
PMP Certification highly desired. Five to seven years strong project management experience preferred, including program design, subcontract management, and project financial/schedule performance management. Contract and proposal preparation experience required. Strong preference for experience in all phases of imagery and mapping project lifecycle management.
