Job Summary
Performs computerized mapping work for the Geographic Information Systems office.
Work involves developing, maintaining, implementing, and converting cartographic and planimetric data for the Geographic Information System (GIS) and developing and producing GIS specific related products through GIS applications and software tools. An employee handles normal recurring assignments on his/her own, referring new and unusual matters, or policy questions, to others.

Essential Job Functions
Converts and/or automates cartographic and planimetric data and imagery into the GIS databases.
Installs GIS software and trains users.
Provides automation support to GIS users.
Implements computer software applications for use in the GIS database.
Produces maps and graphic products using the GIS and other computer graphic software tools.
Assists in maintenance of ArcSDE database, ArcIMS online mapping system, and develops .Net end-user applications using ArcGIS Server technology.

Other Duties
Learns .Net programming and performs data entry into GIS databases as required. Provides assistance to other GIS users with software tools. Develops and codes GIS applications with other GIS staff. Assists Emergency Operations Staff during emergencies and emergency exercises. Performs related work as required.

Pre-employment Knowledges, Abilities and Skills
Knowledge of ESRI ArcGIS, AutoCAD, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Macromedia Dreamweaver or similar types of graphics software concepts and techniques as applied to the GIS; of basic principles of survey and map drafting.
Ability to set up and operate personal computers with application software and associated devices. Must be able to speak and write clearly and concisely.
Required Qualifications (Note: Any acceptable combination of education, training and experience that provides the above knowledges, abilities and skills may be substituted.)
Training and/or Education
Bachelor's degree in GIS, Landscape Architecture, Natural Resources Management, Civil Engineering, Geography or related field.
