BIOLOGICAL SCIENTIST/GIS COORDINATOR
RIO GRANDE NATIONAL FOREST
MONTE VISTA, COLORADO

Open to those with federal career status only; not open to the public.
Closes July 6th

The vacancy for the Biological Scientist GS-401-11 position on the Rio Grande NF opened June 9th and closes on Wednesday, July 6th.

For detailed information, go to the USAjobs website: http://www.usajobs.opm.gov

and search for job announcement no. ADS05-R2RGNF-009G

A Forest GIS Coordinator is the main contact point for guiding Forest spatial analysis processes used in planning and project work, as well as being the go-to person for everything else: Forest and District-level support for training, troubleshooting, mapping, database management, applications, and technology integration (e.g.,GPS+ PDR+GIS+ RDBMS). The work requires good experience in a wide variety of applications of ESRI's ArcGIS software suite, coupled with the Oracle relational database environment.

For you non-USFSers: The acronyms in the announcement refer to a few of the developing USFS-standard "canned" database/application sets that have or will have a spatial component: NRIS (Natural Resource Information System), INFRA (Infrastructure- a capital assets tracking system), FACTS (Forest Activities Tracking System) and INFORMS or similar (process/analysis management tools). Many of these systems are discipline-specific data-holders with built-in program reporting. A large amount of time is dedicated to maintaining these data. Most of the analysis work done on a forest makes use of these data, but can be characterized as ad-hoc (non-standard) work.

The Rio Grande NF has a history of reasonably strong support for its GIS operations.
